We are a Victoria, B.C. based full-service construction company with decades of experience dating back to when our founder, Paul, started building skateboard ramps in wood shop class.

Today, we can design, build and reimagine anything. We love giving tired gems a new life as much as we love to build new homes from the ground up. The Victoria Residential Builders Association is an inclusive, independent, non-profit incorporated in 1940 – one of the most respected and progressive industry associations in Canada. They are the professional voice for builders, renovators, designers, trades and suppliers with members from Vancouver Island, Vancouver, and BC’s interior.

BC Housing

BC Housing manages a variety of subsidized housing options across British Columbia, working closely with the housing ministry to address key gaps in housing. They cover everything from emergency shelters and rental support to affordable home ownership. Additionally, BC Housing licenses builders, oversees owner builder authorizations, and conducts research benefiting the residential construction industry and consumers. They collaborate with 800 housing providers, supporting over 110,000 households province-wide.

Lead Carpenter

Job Type: Full Time

Job Summary:
As a Lead Carpenter at Cosgrave Construction, you will play a critical role in ensuring the success of our projects by leading a team of carpenters and managing all aspects of carpentry work. Drawing on your extensive experience and knowledge, you will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Take ownership of carpentry projects from initiation to completion, ensuring that all tasks are efficiently coordinated and executed.
  • Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of carpenters and apprentices, fostering a collaborative and safe work environment while providing training and skill development.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and plans to accurately assess material needs and project specifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all carpentry work meets the company’s quality standards, adheres to safety protocols, and complies with local building codes.
  • Material Selection: Assist in selecting appropriate materials and tools, taking into consideration durability, aesthetics, and budget constraints.
  • Client Communication: Maintain clear communication with clients, addressing concerns, providing updates, and delivering excellent customer service throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Problem Solving: Identify potential challenges or issues proactively and implement effective solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Documentation: Keep detailed records of work performed, materials used, and project progress, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Qualifications:

  • Red Seal for Carpentry, with Inter provincial Status
  • Minimum 10 years of carpentry experience, with a proven track record in a leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern construction techniques and regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, materials, and safety practices.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building strong relationships with team members and clients.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Pay:

  • $45-$50/ hour, based on experience and performance.

Apprentice carpenter

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Carpenter to join our team. As an Apprentice Carpenter, you will learn essential carpentry skills through hands-on training and classroom instruction according to the ITA apprenticeship curriculum. This position will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced carpenters and gain practical experience in a variety of carpentry tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the construction, installation, and repair of wood and concrete structures and fixtures.
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
  • Participate in the measurement, cutting, shaping, and assembly of wood materials, including framing, formwork and finishing.
  • Help with the setup and cleanup of job sites, ensuring safety and organization.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively under the supervision of a journeyman carpenter.
  • Maintain tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures at all times to promote a safe working environment.
  • Attend classroom training sessions as required to further understand carpentry principles and practices.
  • Track progress and learn essential concepts of carpentry, including building codes, material properties, and construction techniques.
  • Collaborate with team members on various projects and contribute positively to the work environment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrollment in the BC ITA apprentice program. ( can be negotiated)
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record may be required.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry tools and materials is an asset.
  • Strong willingness to learn and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate well with others.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials.
  • Commitment to safety and maintaining a clean work site.
  • Strong worth ethic and the desire to be a part of a team.

Pay:

  • $20-$35/ hour based on experience, level of training and performance.
